Nine Flight Essentials You Need with Young Kids

It’s no secret that travelling with young kids is a challenge to say the least. But flying during a global pandemic is a whole other beast. I find being prepared with a few of these must have items listed below is the best way to keep the kids entertained. And maintain my sanity.

Now, going from travelling the world with one (exceptionally natural traveller from the get-go), to travelling with a second kid (an active, rambunctious boy), is truly next level. This past flight I felt like I was in the Travelling Olympics! Suffice it to say, I needed a long shower upon landing.

That said - I’m determined to keep adventuring. So the least I can do is equip myself with a nice big travel/flying “tool kit”.

Here is a list of my fave flying with kids items, along with sone additional tips from some Instagram friends who sent in theirs! Make sure to screenshot the short list below so you can carry it around with you when you are prepping packing for your next trip!

FYI - This post is NOT sponsored. All links are my products and brands that our family uses!

Here is the detailed content below of the master list for flying with kids! Comment on my instagram post if you have any other ideas that I should add. It truly takes a village when raising kids - am I right?

The Great Flying List - in Detail

  • iPad + Case or Kids Fire Tablet (remember to download content prior to!)

  • JVC kids headphones. Cheap And they do the trick and fit really well on kid heads

  • snacks, snacks, snacks: we love Annies cheddar bunnies, Onnit Bars and Power Puffs, regular oat granola bars, fruit, trail mix, and always an extra special treat of Gummies of some sort for those times that you really need to bribe them.

  • extra grocery bags for poops, dirty clothes, garbage….real life sticky situations.

  • lightweight blankets: sleeping, pillows, make-shift black out blinds etc. We like the Loulou Lollipop blankets (Vancouver Brand!)

  • Liquids: Whatever liquid your baby really likes (security usually lets you through when you say it’s for bottles)

  • Familiar Bottles/Cups: It is so important when flying to keep liquids flowing. Babies especially can easily get dehydrated so we always bring familiar bottles and cups for the kids. We use Dr browns bottles for the baby and a Yeti Kids Water Bottle for our oldest.

  • Advil baby, kids, and adult: just in case!

  • Activity books, Paper Pads and Coloring pencils: Dollar stores have some great cheap colouring books and paper pads, plus ALL the colouring pencils your kids could ever want. If you are organized look on amazon for some GREAT activity books to keep the kids (especially older ones) entertained.

  • Wipes: Heaps of them, just keep adding them compartments of your bag like they are going out stock. Good for sticky situations, smelly situations, and a good mom bath in the airport ( you know what I’m talking about). I like hello bello the best!

So there you have it!

I hope your travels and flights with your kids are seamless and easy(ier) with the help of my flying list. It might just have helped you prep a few extra things that you wouldn’t have before.

Happy Travels!
