Eating in Santa Teresa Costa Rica

Costa Rica has so much to offer (as you’ve heard me say many times before!), and their food choices are no exception. In fact, in addition to the fresh fruit and fish that everyone hears about, there’s also a growing culinary scene in many parts of the country, presenting all sorts of fun and delicious options - both locally and internationally inspired.

The surf town Santa Teresa in the Nicoya peninsula has been a hot spot for a long time, and continues to grow at a rapid pace. Every time I visit, there is construction of new villas, shops and restaurants. There are dozens of top restaurants to hit up these days, but here are a few of my favourites.

Pronto! Italian Street Food

Italian Food:

Pronto! Italian Street Food is a cozy and romantic spot in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.

Pronto! Italian Street Food is a sweet little spot on the main road, across from the beach. They serve authentic italian food from fresh pasta to tiramisu. There’s limited seating, creating a really cozy and intimate atmosphere and I mostly recommend this place for date night. Let’s be honest, I take my kids everywhere with me, but if I were to categorize it, it would be for couples. I had the Puttanesca and it was delightful!

Manzù Beachfront Restaurant

Manzù Beachfront Restaurant is located inside the boutique hotel, Nantipa. You can’t get a better location than this. It’s literally right on the sand, overlooking the ocean and the sunsets are epic. You can sit in the trendy and modern covered section attached to the hotel, or just a few feet out, right in the sand, on low boho-style cushions and beach chairs. It’s a classical surf meets a little high end vibe and is good for all guests. Some of my favourites off the menu are the Fennel & Arugula salad, Butternut squash soup and the Coffee Beef Tenderloin.

El Carmen

El Carmen is also on the beach, and has a slightly more casual scene than Manzù. We love to go there for burgers and fries, caesar salad, to watch people mingle and surf, and to listen to fun tunes.

The Bakery

The Bakery boasts classic European goods like SUPER fresh croissants and legit espresso based coffees. The decor is super trendy and modern, and it’s great for takeaway or sit down. The only condition to this one is if you’re there during peak hours (most mornings), you may be waiting a bit to get in. But it’s definitely worth it.

This latte and chocolate croissant combo at the Bakery was just right, and totally European fresh.

Feel like you’re in Europe, on the beach:

There are honestly so many good restaurants in Santa Teresa, but this is a good start for checking off that must-do list. Buen provecho!
